Welcome Fellow Mt. Greenwooders!

Welcome to the new and IMPROVED MTG blogspot. We will do our best to keep you informed of going ons around and in 60655! Please use this blog to disseminate information, discuss local topics, praise and/or criticize local businesses, same for politicians in the area, bring up public safety concerns and even to kick around some local gossip! The purpose of this blog is to take the reigns from In and Around and continue what was a great source of community information. We enjoyed In and Around and since its collapse have felt it was important for the neighborhood to keep this information going... Thanks, in and Around, we hope we make you proud! We will be allowing most thoughts to be posted, whether we agree or disagree. ... Of course, we ask that our readers exercise some discretion; keep the profanity to a minimum, refrain from using individual names and addresses, and we will only censor when deemed absolutely appropriate! Facts will be checked and out and out lies will be deleted, but other than that, my friends... GET TO BLOGGIN! We look forward to your comments! The site is currently under construction, but bear with us and we should have all the kinks worked out very soon! Again, WELCOME to our blog, we will leave it an open post for the time being!

  1. The halloween for the kids on 111th Street was nice even thought the weather didn't cooperate. Thanks to all the businesses that participated. TaTa's was giving away slices of pizza which were great. The sad part about it was noticing all the empty and run down abandon commercial properties. Now the newest abandon property is Corigan's. The building next to it has been empty for years, now it will look even worse with Corigan's gone. Where is Alderman Rugui??? What is she doing to try and attract new businesses? I hope that everyone supports their local businesses.

Thanks for starting a blog for the neighborhood.

  3. Here’s my Rant…
As a resident of the neighborhood for almost twenty years I feel I have a vested interest in the police protection we receive. Or perhaps at least the right to comment on the LACK of protection we receive from the Chicago Police. It appears that the commander and Tact Lt. of the 022 District feel that because so many police live in Mt. Greenwood we can police ourselves. Between the Tact Lt. instructing his plain clothes teams to stay East of Western Ave. and the watch commander allowing BT: 2211 to handle jobs miles away from our neighborhood we are left with a giant ZERO for police service. Yes, I fully understand the 022nd district goes beyond the Mt. Greenwood neighborhood borders, however, I find it suspicious that the officers are specifically told to avoid OUR neighborhood. I bet the beat car that drives around the 8900 block of Leavitt in North Beverly (home of our alderman) does go far from their beat.
Anyway, the regular day and afternoon beat officers on 2211 are very proactive and when allowed to actually work the beat and they do a nice job.
Thank you from a homeowner on Central Park.

  5. To the homeowner on Central Park, maybe you should go to a CAPS meeting and voice your concern?

  7. Thekeesingbandit is from mount greenwood? Did the bandit ever hang out in the mens room of the Brass Tap? Not that theres anything wrong with that.

  8. In Garfield Ridge the residents started a petition and acquired enough signatures to put pressure on the commander of the 008th District to keep cars (specifically 811 and 812) on their beats only (almost no exceptions). Looks like 2211 needs a petition.

    ReplyDelete
  9. ok...so then if Bt. 811 needs another car to assist them or their assignment takes them into 022, is it fair to use another beat's car to cover for them? The answer is to hire more officers and re-assign more to patrol duties.

  12. So where can I sign the petition to reduce the number of aldermen in Chicago on the next ballot? Anyone have one?

  15. Living on Central Park hit it on the head.

As for the poster that suggested beat meetings- Are you a 70 year old lady that looks out her window and reads the southtown news blotter? OMG, Beat 2211 is the least patrolled beat on the southside and attempting to fix things by going to the beat meetings would be a total waste of time.

Ask any copper in the neighborhood that is or was the real police (not some hair gel kid w/ a master's degree and 18 months on the job) what CAPS can do. CAPS doesn't do sh!t but supply a few lazy ass coppers, a lazy sgt. and a do nothing Lt. "inside spots" to hide and work M-F on 2nd watch (days).

News flash to the residents of 2211--- The dept. and the City could careless about a middle class white community like ours. We have no reverends or store front preachers to go ghetto on TV.

sounds like you're the lazy one that doesn't care enough to go to a meeting or two, to voice your concern(s)in a civil manner..no you'd rather make idiotic comments on a blog and find fault with God forbid, persons who actually had the personal goal to further their education.

Yep it easier to just sit at your computer and dump on the police as usual.

  19. Scam alert !!! last night a young lady came to my door claiming to be collecting money for victim's of violence ... Stating this was her service hours project and that she was from Kennedy High School ... when I quizzed her for identification she became flustered and left, continuing on her way, with no money from me. Not wanting to rush to judgement, I called the police who responded very quickly ... I do not know if they found her. I checked with Kennedy High School this Morning and they indeed verified that it is a scam. They got nothing from me, but did collect from some unsuspecting neighbors. This is theft / by deception ... be ever vigilant ... The Girl is from the Westlawn neighborhood ... 3500 block of 66th St. I did not get the name because as I said she became flustered and put her state Id back in her pocket before I could get the name. She is a female white , 24 years old , about 5'06" , 110 lbs./120 lbs. Brown hair just beyond the shoulders. She wore a dark color thermal jacket and dark jeans. I also noticed a white or light grey older model Chevy Suburban cruising the block .. could not get the plate ... and not sure it is involved but I do not recognize it from the neighborhood.

  21. its not off-duty police officers job to go around policing their neighborhoods, just as its not the firefighters job to ride around looking for fires on his days off. Streets in disrepair, 111th loaded with traffic back-ups, neighborhood looking more dirty every year, more crime and less police protection, while out 19th Ward Alderwoman is selling promotions on the police department via pay-to-play. Time for a new Alderperson, long overdue for CHANGE.

TIME FOR RUGAI TO BE LAUNCHED AS ALDERPERSON, A FAILURE TO MT. GREENWOOD RESIDENTS. I HEREBY REQUEST AND NOMINATE JIM MCMAHON FOR 19TH WARD ALDERMAN, WE NEED REAL CHANGE, NOT RHETORIC CHANGE...

  23. Police protection for the Mt. Greenwood area could be had with only a word from Ginger. She could insite, or rather demand, that Bt. 2211 stay west of the railroad tracks at Rockwell. She is silent on that issue while garages are being burglarized and our children robbed and beaten. Would this happen in Beverly or North Beverly? I don't think so. As taxpayers actually paying the tax bills- we deserve and demand it. Going to the beat meeting and trying to get the Beat Sgt or patrolman to change the policy of policing in Mt. Greenwood isn't going to get it done. WHERE ARE YOU GINGER ON THIS MATTER???

  24. Slow down grandma. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid and lookin out the window. I'm sure your Southtown Economist crime blotter is on the way. To be more specific about my earlier post--- The comment I posted was for the police that read the blog, but it appears the only response I got was from the district CAPS office. LOL!

You see i'm from secondcitycop.blogspot.com and
Perhaps you're wondering why am I here?

First, i'm here because this blog came to our blog and invited us.

Second, I live in 60655 and i want better police service.

Finally, I am the police (15 yrs policing the ghetto) and I am sick to my stomach went I watch what the police in 022 do to get outta doing work (With the exceptions of a few).

In conclusion CAPS still blows! I am sorry your feelings got hurt with my referece to you looking out the window or to hair gel. Have some more Kool-Aid!

I'm not from the CAPS office,a wrong assumption you made. Also you really didn't hurt any of my feelings, lol, again wrong assumption. Often times we have openings that would allow an officer to bid to the 022nd Distict. But then you already know this. Perhaps you should think about bidding here and then you could show everyone how to do real police work. Really,I'm serious, c'mon and bid.

If you're really the police, you should be aware of the numerous issues that affect manpower and police response(s). If you feel the CAPS meeting is the wrong venue to vent your concerns, then maybe choose another way to bring your issues to the proper authority. You're a taxpayer and thus deserve service, I can't disagree with you on that, we all want our families to be safe and our property respected,we pay for police service and we should get it. What I take issue with is in your first post, you finding fault with officers who have 18mos on the job or have a masters degree. I would never fault someone for furthering their education, nor would I find fault with someone who didn't choose that route. In my humble opinion,it's not the years on that makes an officer (although more years on will most certainly, add to his/her expertise),it's whats in his/her heart. This goes for every occupation. I've also seen officers on the street that are new to the job that would race,as they should, to help a veteran officer in trouble or come to the aid of a citizen, putting their lives on the line just like seasoned officers would. If or when this would occur, I don't think you or anyone who needed help would think any less of them for helping you if they were new or would ask them first,"wait before you help me...do you have 18mos on or do you have a masters degree"? Of course not, you'd thank them for coming to your aid. As you know, many new officers have suffered incredible injuries or worse, doing just that.
So I hope that clarifies my opinion or point. Gotta go now, CVS has a sale on my favorite hair gel, lol.

  29. Sorry kid but HGS detectives can't bid to 022. Also, it's clear that you work in 022 so if i struck a nerve I'm sorry.

It's funny you bring up the "call for help" thing in your post. I had that happen to me this summer and after calling 911 it took 17 minutes for an officer calling for help (sidenote: I checked the PCAD and you guys were just sleeping). Thanks anyway for the horrible service. Note to 60655 residents, if it took them 17 mins to respond to a policeman's call for help how long do you think it would take them to get to your house?

Anyway, when the fighting 022 got there they they did EVERYTHING in their power to 19-P the job Before I insisted on an arrest (battery). While they locked up the the 1st offender (after I insisted) they did a contact card on the shithead copper's kid (2nd offender) instead of locking him up (I later learned they lied an the card about his name) but as a det. I followed things up and after learning what they did i have NO respect for those DOGS! and Yes i handled the problem myself-off-duty because 022 was NOWHERE be found when I needed them.

Finally, Allow me to apologize if my comment about college upset you. Sorry.

  31. We had an incident in Spring with kids fighting. 22 did a great job. We signed a complaint. Parents of the kids had a few comments as did their kids afterwards but we have not had any problems since. Maybe looking in the mirror on how you are presenting yourself during these situations would help you. We hear all to often on how bad of a job someone does, but rarely to we stop to say "thank you" or "good job" Thanks 22.
